Watts Funeral Home - Kingston 707 Highway 70 East Kingston, OK 73439 p: (580) 564-1313. The watt (symbol: W) is a unit of power or radiant flux. In the International System of Units (SI), it is defined as a derived unit of (in SI base units) 1 kg⋅m 2 ⋅s −3 or, equivalently, 1 joule per second. It is used to quantify the rate of energy transfer. The watt is named after James Watt, an 18th-century Scottish inventor. Electrical power is measured in watts. In an electrical system power (P) is equal to the voltage multiplied by the current. The water analogy still applies. Take a hose and point it at a waterwheel like the ones that were used to turn grinding stones in watermills.
